The best single-A girls volleyball teams from across Vancouver Island will gather at Duncan Christian School this Friday and Saturday to determine the Island champion.
Twelve teams, including five from the Cowichan Valley, will compete for the Island title and one of two berths at the provincial championships at Immaculata in Kelowna. The third-place team will get a chance at a wild-card berth at provincials as well.
The host DCS Chargers are ranked first going into the tournament and will be joined by four other local entries: the Lake Cowichan Lakers (ranked fourth), Chemainus Cougars (fifth), Brookes Shawnigan Lake (seventh), and Queen Margaret’s School Royals (10th).
Rounding out the field are Nanaimo Christian, Aspengrove, St. Andrew’s, Victor Brodeur, North Island, Port Hardy and Maaqtusiis.
All round-robin games will be played on Friday.
DCS plays Lake Cowichan at 9:30 a.m., Aspengrove at 1:15 p.m. and Nanaimo Christian at 5 p.m.
Lake Cowichan plays DCS at 9:30 a.m., NCS at 1:15 p.m. and Aspengrove at 5 p.m.
Chemainus plays Maaqtusiis at 9:30 a.m., North Island at 2:30 p.m., and Brodeur at 6:15 p.m.
Brookes plays QMS at 10:45 a.m., Port Hardy at 3:45 p.m. and St. Andrews at 6:15 p.m.
QMS plays Brookes at 10:45 a.m., St. Andrews at 3:45 p.m. and Port Hardy at 7:30 p.m.
Playoffs will take place on Saturday, capped off with the championship game at 5:30 p.m.
