Levi De Waal made himself right at home and in the process, the Langley Knights finally picked up a victory away from home.
De Waal scored four times — including a third-period goal to force overtime and then the sudden-death winner — as the Knights rallied for a 5-4 win over the Aldergrove Kodiaks on Oct. 8.
The game was played at Aldergrove Arena, the home rink of De Waal, the Knights’ leading scorer.
Through eight games this season, De Waal has 11 goals and 22 points.
The victory improves Langley to 5-3-0-0 and top spot in the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s Harold Brittain Conference. And it was the first win in four tries away from the friendly confines of the George Preston Recreation Centre, the home rink of the junior B hockey club.
Tristan Craighead opened the scoring for Langley and the Knights led 3-2 after one period. The Kodiaks struck back for a pair of goals from Quinncy Leroux and Jordan Funk in the middle frame to lead after 40 minutes.
Dryden Wust and Aaron Markin had the other Kodiaks goals.
The winning goal came 47 seconds into overtime on a power play.
Oliver Alcock had three assists for Langley while Carson Rose and Dylan McCann had a pair of helpers apiece.
Cole Forbes made 30 saves in the victory.
The Knights, who have now strung together back-to-back victories for the first time this season, will look to make it three in a row when they host the Delta Ice Hawks at the Preston Centre on Oct. 9. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
