Deanna Tuchscherer and the University of the Fraser Valley women’s basketball team crushed the UBC-Okanagan Heat in two weekend games.
The Cascades used balanced scoring to whomp the Heat 78-49 Friday night at the Envision Athletic Centre in Abbotsford.
Tuchscherer, a GW Graham grad, had 11 points on five-of-nine shooting from the field, adding three offensive rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Tuchscherer was one of two Cascades in double digits, along with Nikki Cabucco’s 13 points.
Eleven of the 12 UFV players had at least one bucket in the rout.
The Saturday night rematch wasn’t much closer.
The Cascades cruised to a 77-50 triumph with Tuchscherer contributing 13 points, one rebound, three assists and a blocked shot.
She was second behind Mission’s Taylor Claggett in points. Claggett had 24.
The pair combined to score nine of UFV’s first 11 points.
“I thought we did a better job of moving the ball tonight,” said Cascades head coach Al Tuchscherer. “We played with better pace, pushed the ball up the floor, got in behind their defence a little bit early and got some easy buckets. That was good to see. It was closer tonight to how we want to play, especially that first half.”
UFV evened its record at 2-2 in Canada West play, which leaves them tied for 10th in the 17 team conference.
They face a tough test this weekend with Friday and Saturday home games against the first place Lethbridge Pronghorns (5-1).
