Trinity Western Spartans outside hitter Nick Del Bianco of Surrey earned his first All-Canadian award at the CIS men’s volleyball awards at the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sports) national championship awards banquet last week in Quebec City.

Del Bianco, who was awarded first team honours, was the lone Spartan to be a major award winner or named a CIS All-Canadian.

The third-year Sports and Leisure Management major, who was named to the CIS All-Rookie Team in 2010-11, finished the regular season sixth in the conference with 3.65 kills per set and fifth in Canada West with 4.30 points per set.

The Fleetwood Park Secondary graduate also led the conference in aces, with 0.41 per set. Del Bianco had a season-high 26 kills against Mount Royal on Jan. 26 and twice registered a season-high five aces, against Calgary on Feb. 1 and against Saskatchewan on Nov. 17.

The Spartans competed at the national championship tournament over the weekend, winning one of three matches.
