Delta’s Nic Petan scored the 5-4 overtime winner for the Winnipeg Jets prospects against the Vancouver Canucks Sunday afternoon at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
The Young Stars Classic game was forced to overtime when Canucks winger Hunter Shinkaruk, who opened the scoring, buried the 4-4 tally with 39 seconds left in regulation time.
After giving the Canucks a 1-0 lead 5:08 into the game, the Jets scored four unanswered goals by Scott Kosmachuk with two, Austen Brassard and Adam Lowry. The Jets had built up a 3-1 lead two goals in the first seven minutes of the second period.
Jets goalie Jussi Olkinuora made 35 saves while Kelowna Rockets goalie Jackson Whistle finished with 24 saves.
The Canucks Young Stars Classic concludes Monday with the Jets and Oilers facing each other at 11:30 a.m. and the Flames and Canucks playing at 5:30 p.m. at the SOEC.
