A depleted Kwalikum Kondors senior boys team got clipped by the Timberline Wolves 72-60 in AA North Island League action that was held at the KSS gym on Thursday night (Dec. 6).
Head coach Taylor Wilson said they were shorthanded as three of his players — Nolan Lewis, Felix Westermann and Cody Shepard — did not suit up due to injuries.
It was the first loss for the Kondors, who just two nights ago, opened the season with a narrow victory over Nanaimo Christian Trail Blazers.
Against the Wolves, the Kondors, despite not having some of their top players, kept the game close and trailed only by two, 36-34 at the half. In the next two quarters, the strain on the depleted Kondors took its toll and in the end were not able to keep up with the Wolves.
Wilson was still happy with the way the Kondors played as they battled to give themselves a fighting chance to beat the Wolves.
Leading the scoring for the Kondors was Logan Ward who had 22 points including three treys, with Furkan Elcin banking in 10 points and Braeden Leary 9 points.
The Kondors competed at the Mark Isfeld Ice Invitational Tournament over the weekend but on Tuesday, they will be on the road to take on Ladysmith Secondary 49ers at 7 p.m.
