A big crowd turned out to Mellor Hall at the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds last Saturday for the Brass Knuckle Derby Dames’ roller derby season opener against the Campbell River Rink Minx.
The fast and competitive bout ended in a 259-148 score in Campbell River’s favour. It was followed by a roller disco with skate rentals from Roller Skate Victoria.
“The roller disco was also awesome,” reported BKDD spokesperson Stephanie Farrow (a.k.a. She Wrecks). “Most of the out-of-town skaters stayed for the skate, and Roller Skate Victoria tells us they had a ton of rentals out there.”
Demand was high for a repeat of the event.
“I can’t even tell you how many people asked when we are doing it again,” She Wrecks said.
BKDD will have a Star Wars-themed game on Saltspring Island on May 4, and the junior side will make the trip to have their first bout of the season as part of a doubleheader.
The team’s next home game is scheduled for July 27, when they will host the Victoria Hardcores, also at Mellor Hall.
