Following a season-opening victory, the North Delta Devils are now winless in four consecutive Pacific Junior Hockey League games.
The Devils fell 5-1 to the Delta Ice Hawks Tuesday evening in Ladner, the first time in three road games this season, in which they didn’t earn a point. North Delta fell behind early, and were outplayed for most of the contest.
Michael Olson-Eyre, Alex Dawydiak and Evan Grannery lifted the home team to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Colin Catchpole gave the Devils some hope with a goal three minutes into the second period. But the Ice Hawks made it 4-1 before the period was over on Olson-Eyre’s second tally of the game, then added a fifth goal late in the third frame by Evan Diamantopoulos.
Delta held a 37-31 shots on goal advantage, and won the special teams battle. The Ice Hawks were two-for-eight on the powerplay, while North Delta was scoreless in six chances.
The Devils, now at 1-3-1 (won-lost-tied) will host the Ridge Meadows Flames Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. in the Sungod Arena. The Flames are also 1-3-1 this season.
