Athletes throughout School District 27 are gearing up for this week’s annual SD27 District Track and Field Meet.
Schools from the district have each been hosting their own track and field meets in preparation, where qualifying athletes will converge this Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8 at the Lake City Secondary School Columneetza Campus and at Nesika Elementary School for the meet.
Thursday at the Columneetza field, the 1,000-metre long distance race gets underway at 3:20 p.m. Boys aged 10-12 and girls aged 10-12 will be competing.
Friday, the bulk of the events take place.
Starting at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony with track and field running until 3:30 p.m.
Events include long jump, triple jump, shot put, the 100-metre dash and the 400-metre race.
