Last week, 270 students from eight schools converged on Ripple Rock Elementary to take part in the first annual School District Soccer Jamboree.
Students ranged from grades 3 to 5 (above) and represented a variety of skill levels; however, the only pre-requisites were sportsmanship and having fun. It wasn’t school vs school but colour vs colour. Students from each school were distributed over 11 coloured teams. The school district provided the funding that ensured each participant received a keeper shirt.
Organized by Ripple Rock teacher Garth Douglas, the idea was to create an inter-school activity without the competitiveness. Student played five games each throughout the day. Many parent volunteers and personnel from the various schools helped make this a fun and successful event.
