Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Ryan Burton has locked up a Div. 1 NCAA commitment to Union College beginning in 2016/17.
"The entire Capitals organization is very pleased to see Ryan commit to such an excellent program," head coach and general manager Bob Beatty said.
A 19-year-old product of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Burton scored seven goals and assisted on 20 more for 27 points in 56 games as a B.C. Hockey League rookie last season. He finished on a strong note with 19 points in his last 22 contests.
"Ryan has elite-level speed and acceleration, is very good on draws and made some highlight reel plays as his confidence grew in the second half of the year," Beatty said.
The Caps have high hopes for Burton as a key member of the team next season.
"We expect Ryan to have an exceptional season before moving on to further his career and education with an elite school and hockey program at Union College," Beatty said.
