DLE snips Handi

Just one week to go in the Quesnel Curling Superleague with three teams sitting at 10-5 on the season.

With just one week to go in the Quesnel Curling Superleague, the top of the leader is crowded, with three teams sitting at 10-5 on the season.

Douglas Lake Equipment went into last Wednesday’s action looking for the win to join Investor’s Group atop the standings.

On sheet D, in what DLE, otherwise known as the Big Orange Machine, called the feature match, skip Vic LeBlanc and his crew were firing on all four cylinders.

In the early goings, it looked like the IG gang would invest in a win, but their power sweeper, Veikko (The Vacuum) Paivenau wore his arms out sweeping another light draw by skip Ray (Lightweight) Blackmore, which let DLE power ahead for the 6-5 win and a share of first place in the standings.

The Handi Self Storage foursome, with a record of 9-5, stepped onto sheet A, looking for the win to maintain their share of first place, as they faced the JAR Transport gang.

Hungry for a win Handi ordered a number eight, a couple of nooners, a full loaf with Joe’s special sauce and clam chowder.

They then proceeded to use the JAR boys for dessert on their way to a 5-2 win and a spot at the top of the leaderboard.

Karin’s Deli didn’t waste any time serving up an 8-0 loss to the Child Development Centre foursome, beginning with a two-point first end with the hammer, then stealing singles in the second and third ends, stealing two more in the fourth end to seal the deal with handshakes all around.

On sheet C, A&W took on Cariboo Pulp in a match that seemed like it would never end.  Down 6-1 after just three ends, A&W started the comeback, and tied it up with a three-point eighth end and capped off the comeback to steal a point in the extra end for the 8-7 win.

Observers said Cariboo Pulp had an unexpected shutdown that cost the team the win.

Finally, on sheet E, in what some say was a highly anticipated game, the play by both Billy Barker Casino and Service Electric was of the low voltage variety.

There were few sparks flying, but a tone of chips delivered.

Service Electric couldn’t wire any shots and discovered that the Casino foursome had the right tools to short out any of their shots and end the game through electrocution.

The card dealers took this one 7-2.
