The Cowichan Valley Wrestling Club is looking for the Future Stars of Wrestling.
The club’s annual Future Stars of Wrestling Camp begins later this month for young athletes between the ages of five and 10.
This is the seventh year the CVWC has run the camp, which has turned into a pipeline to the competitive team.
“It gives kids an opportunity to try the sport, and if they like it, they can choose to join the club.”
Sessions run from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday nights from April 24 to June 12 at Queen of Angels School. The cost is $95. Registration includes a camp T-shirt, and all wrestlers also receive a medal and certificate at the end of the camp.
The club keeps the camp fun, and while it is geared toward wrestling, it also incorporates aspects of other sports.
“Every year we usually get over 40 kids,” Zuback commented. “And a lot of them advance to our club on the junior side and continue with the sport, which is great.”
There is no need for experience, the coach advised.
“All they need is shorts and a T-shirt, and they’re good to go,” he said.
Zuback was speaking from the airport in Toronto during a stopover on his way to Fredericton, NB with 12 CVWC wrestlers who are competing in the national championships this weekend.
