A tremendous pitching performance by Tyler Dobos was the highlight on a weekend of mixed results for the Abbotsford Cardinals.
The local B.C. Premier Baseball League team split a pair of doubleheaders at DeLair Park. On Saturday, they beat the Nanaimo Pirates 5-3, only to fall 3-2 in the back half.
On Sunday, the Cards blanked the Vancouver Cannons 1-0 before falling 8-5 in the second game of the day.
Dobos was the story in Sunday’s opener – he allowed just one hit and struck out four batters while going the full seven innings, lowering his earned run average to 0.93 in the process.
The Cannons’ offence ignited in the second game of the day, though. Gabe Gomez had a big game for Abbotsford in the loss, driving in three runs, while Vancouver (1-10) posted its first victory of the season.
The Cardinals (4-7) have just one game this week – they host the Fraser Valley Chiefs at DeLair Park on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
