Dodgers rule provincial D division

The Vernon Dodgers went undefeated and claimed the recent B.C. Men’s Slo-Pitch ‘D’ title in Kelowna.

The Vernon Dodgers went undefeated and claimed the recent B.C. Men’s Slo-Pitch ‘D’ title in Kelowna.

The Dodgers dominated preliminary play with wins over Fraser Valley Cresting and the Dirt Squirrels, seeding them fourth in the playoff round.

In the playoff, the Dodgers defeated the Orioles, Under Pressure and the Posse, advancing to the A semifinal where they grounded an Abbotsford team.

The Dodgers outlasted familiar foe Undecided 15-14, with Wade Fraser leading off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and Trevor Embleton delivering the winning hit after the bases were intentionally loaded.

Braden Robertson and Fraser each went 4-for-5 with Garth Gartner, Embleton and Wayne Larsson each going 3-for-4.

Don Prowse provided great pitching all weekend, with Dave Cover coming in to close out the final game.

The rest of the Dodgers: Kurt Roberts, Don Hunter, Mark Murphy, Don Prowse, Shane Davy, Devin Ramsey, Jeremy Solmes (injury reserve) and manager Brandon Solmes. The team thanked sponsors Kal Sports Bar, Vernon White Spot, Fitness West and AWM Compass Mortgage Group.

Meanwhile, the Vernon Fever finished top-12 at the Co-Ed Intermediate Provincials last weekend in Langley.

After playing a three-game, round-robin format to set up a single-knockout playoff, the Fever bowed out to eventual champion Hard ‘n Thru 20-11 in the B side.

The Fever, sponsored by Etap Productions and Progressive Automotive, qualify for the 2012 provincials set for next August in Langley.
