Revelstoke’s Dominic Unterberger just missed out on the podium at his first FIS slalom race of the season at Mount Norquay, Alta., on Saturday.
Unterberger, 18, who is racing with the BC Ski Team this winter, finished in fourth place in a combined time of 1:27.16, 0.29 seconds back of third in Saturday’s Van Houtte Cup slalom race.
“Unterberger also gave us a few flashes of brilliance and missed the podium by 3/10ths of a second despite big mistakes in both his first and second runs,” said coach JP Daigneault. “He is well on his way, and with his work ethic and drive he’ll be stomping all over these Van Houtte podiums in no time.
Unterberger’s teammate Roger Carry from Fernie won the race.
Unterberger fared less well on Sunday’s race, coming in 23rd place after hiking a gate in his first run.
The BC Ski Team is at Nor AM race this week at Panorama Mountain Resort.
