A field with seven inches of snow and a temperate of minus six perked up the Fulton Maroons as they iced the Westsyde Blue Wave 34-0 in Okanagan Senior Varsity Football League play Friday night at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops.

The Maroons closed league play at 3-1 and will be the Interior’s No. 2 seed against the Eastern Conference third seed Friday, 2 p.m., at Greater Vernon Athletics Park.

Caden Doyle registered three touchdowns in the snow, including a 48-yard fumble return and a 50-yard TD rush, in the opening quarter.

“It made for a slippery ball and tough to get traction for the players,” said Fulton head coach Mike Scheller. “As a coaching staff, we were happy with how we played. Out starters executed well on offence and we were able to break some long runs. I cannot say enough about the impact Doyle has had on our team. He is a great kid who works hard in practice and is good to his teammates. He is a game breaker and a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He had three long TDs in a quarter and a half.”

Doyle added a 30-yard touchdown on a second-quarter fun, while quarterback Ike Olson scored on a 50-yard romp and Teigen Derkach hauled in a five-yard TD catch from Olson, to complete the offence.

Olson completed three of four passes for 31 yards, while Doyle rang up 128 yards on four touches and Olson had 59 yards on two rushes.

Liam Gombrich recorded six tackles, while Evan Trottier had five and Nate Banga three.

“Our defence is playing very well and is our strength right now,” added Sheller.

“They are flowing hard to the ball and executing a smart game plan. Gombrich was a beast in the middle. Ryan Rumsey leads our defence and he is doing a good job captaining the defence. Evan Trottier had another very solid game at corner.”

Fulton is 6-2 overall.
