Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor were the headliners, but Matt Palsenbarg stole the show at the Ledgeview Classic on Friday.
Palsenbarg, out of Northview Golf and Country Club in Surrey, shot a five-under 65 to claim a one-shot victory at the Vancouver Golf Tour event.
Bryn Parry, the top-ranked CPGA pro, finished solo second at 66, while Hadwin and Taylor – products of the Ledgeview junior program who are considered among the top up-and-coming pros in Canada – were tied for third at 67.
Palsenbarg surged to the top of the leaderboard thanks to an eagle on 18, plus six birdies. He earned $1,100 for the win, while Parry took $875 for second and Taylor (pictured right) and Hadwin took $650 apiece.
On the amateur side, Soo Bin Kim made a little bit of history by becoming the first female to capture the overall amateur title at a VGT event. The 17-year-old from Swan-E-Set in Pitt Meadows edged runner-up Jessie Singh by two shots. She’s set to join the University of Washington women’s golf program this fall.
In Flight A, Surrey’s Jim Zalusky won the low gross (77) while Morgan Creek’s Jeff Lindemulder won the low net (71). In Flight B, the low gross winner was Ron Pound (90), while New Westminster’s Pete Fung took the low net (76).
TAYLOR, STINSON WIN MATCH PLAY
On Sunday, Josh Taylor – Nick’s older brother – teamed up with Mission’s Kevin Stinson to win the Canada Bread B.C. Match Play Championship at Northview.
The local duo defeated Brian Jung and Min Gu Kang, three and two, in the 36-hole final. Taylor sealed the win with a birdie on the 34th hole.
It marked the second career B.C. Match Play title for the elder Taylor, a University of Texas at El Paso grad. He also won the tournament with James Allenby back in 2006, when it was an amateur event.
