The 48 members of the Eaglecrest Ladies Golf Club got their competitive season off to a rousing start this month with tournaments contesting the first two trophies of the season at the club in Qualicum Beach.
The Anne Sharpe Trophy pits golfers 70-and-better, while the Marl Cup provided competition for the youngsters 69-under.
Dale Marshall rode a strong second-day performance to overtake early leader Sharon Bellinger and claim the Anne Sharpe Trophy by a three-stroke margin. Marshall carded a 36-hole score of 145 while Bellinger, who held a slender lead on the opening day, found too many sand traps in the final round and followed at 148. Helen Dunham secured third place with a net score of 152.
In the Marl Cup tourney, Shawne Munro was able to maintain her slim first-day lead over last year’s winner, Kathy Hiebert, to take the cup with net 143. Hiebert finished the day at 146, and Lois Kaye took third position with 152.
