Eagles begin playoff series

The Surrey Eagles’ playoff push begins tonight.

The Eagles will host the Coquitlam Express tonight, 7 p.m. at South Surrey Arena, in the opening game of the best-of-seven first-round series.

Game 2 of the B.C. Hockey League series is slated for Saturday evening, also in South Surrey, while the series shifts to Coquitlam for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Tuesday nights.

The Eagles finished the regular season in second place in the BCHL Coastal Conference – the first-place Powell River Kings earned a first-round playoff bye – while the Express were seventh, 19 points shy of the Eagles’ 73 points.

Meanwhile, it was announced Tuesday that Eagles’ forward Brad McGowan – who finished tied for second in league scoring with 89 points – was named the Coastal Conference’s most sportsmanlike player. In addition to his 89 points, the 20-year-old Langley native had just 26 penalty minutes this season.
