Eagles put pressure on Chase Heat

Sicamous Eagles unable to grab win in weekend play.

The Sicamous Eagles didn’t shy away from the Doug Birks division-leading Chase Heat during KIJHL action last Thursday at the Art Holding Memorial Arena.

With three wins now under their belts, including a Nov. 4, 4-3 OT win over the Kamloops Storm, the Eagles hit the Heat ice on Nov. 10 with a fire of their own, denying the mighty Chase team any chance to light up the board throughout the first period.

The Heat tried to do the same, but at 7:38, the Eagles’ Logan Middleton found a hole in the home team’s defences and put in the first goal of the evening with an assist by Jace Woodley.

The Heat replied two-minutes into the second, with Josh Bourne putting the game at 1-1. Penalty trouble for the Eagles after the halfway mark opened opportunities for the Heat to add two more goals before the period’s end.

In the third frame, the Heat’s two-goal lead was soon reduced to one, with a Cameron Flinton goal off Kyle Riley and Brent Koch giving the Eagles a morale boost. The Heat, however, weren’t ready to lose face before the home audience, and went on to add three more goals to their lead.

Cody Milgate potted a late marker off Flinton, but last word went to the Heat with Kaden Black scoring a power-play conversion with 12 seconds left on the clock.

Flinton was named the game’s second star.

On Nov. 12 the Eagles were dealt a 5-4 loss by guests, the Kelowna Chiefs.

The Kelowna team was quick score with an early power-play in the first period. The momentum continued and the team added two more before the Eagles’ Tyler Collens was able to respond with a short-handed goal off Ryan Ignace. At 9:18, Logan Middleton potted a power-play marker off Wesley Howerton, putting the tally at 3-2 for Kelowna going into the second.

Two Kelowna goals in the second period sandwiched a single by the Eagles’ Jace Woodley off Milgate and Kyle Riley.

By the third frame, the Chiefs were getting about as many penalties as they were shots on the Sicamous net. The Eagles, unfortunately, couldn’t turn those power plays into goals. But Woodley was able add one final goal for the Eagles off Flinton and Milgate.

The Sicamous Eagles are back on the ice on Saturday, Nov. 19, when they once again host the Kamloops Storm.
