With December underway, the Sicamous Eagles are in the holiday spirit with a number of community events.
Last Sunday was the team’s dinner with Santa. On Friday, Dec. 15, the Eagles will hold their annual toque toss event during their game against the 100 Mile House Wranglers. During second admission, the audience is welcome to toss mittens, gloves and toques onto the ice.
The donated winter wear will be collected for Sicamous food bank Christmas hampers. Game time is 7 p.m.
Weekend play:
The Eagles found no opportunity to rise in the standings over the weekend.
On Friday, Dec. 1, the Eagles landed in the South Okanagan to exchange shots – on goal and each other, with the Princeton Posse.
First period was an evenly matched competition in which neither team was able to ripple the mesh. No score in the second frame either, though the Posse did a better job of keeping the puck in the visitor’s end. Third period was a gong show highlighted by two Posse goals, including a last-minute power-play conversion, and a lot of penalties. The majority of the penalty calls were against the Posse, but Sicamous picked up enough of their own and were unable capitalize on the man advantage. Final tally: 2-0 Princeton.
Wickson was named the game’s second star, stopping 59 shots on net.
On Saturday night, Dec. 2, the South Okanagan came to Sicamous when the Eagles hosted the Osoyoos Coyotes.
Despite it being a 4-3 win for the Coyotes, it was, overall, a higher-calibre game than what the Eagles experienced in Princeton.
Coyotes opened scoring at 14:11 in the first period, and added two more before the buzzer for a 3-0 lead. In the second period, the Coyotes managed 15 shots on net, all denied by Wickson. The Eagles had five opportunities and made two of them count, the first by Justin Hodgson off Aaron Plessis and Sebastien Archambault, and the second by Dallas Stewart, assisted by Breckin Erichuk and Cody Loucks.
In the third period, the Coyotes potted a single near they halfway mark, topping up their lead to 4-2. Archambault reduced the gap with a marker at 6:07 off Diego Pasula and Loucks, but score remained at 4-3 until the final buzzer.
