Langley hockey team 2-0 after first day of peewee AAA hockey championships

The Langley Eagles are off to a soaring start.

The host team for the tier 1 AAA peewee hockey championships being held this week at the Langley Events Centre, the Eagles were a perfect 2-0 on Monday, the opening day of the four-day championships.

Langley began the tournament with a 5-1 win over Kelowna on Monday morning, and followed that up with a 9-2 defeat of Cowichan Valley in the day’s final contest.

In the opener, Eagles goalie Jordan Hollett turned in a terrific game, finishing with 35 saves as his team was outshot 36-31.

Jonathan Sein scored twice while David Laurin and Alec Capstick had a goal and an assist apiece. James Malm had the other Eagles goal.

Laurin and Malm had huge games against Cowichan Valley as well.

Both players scored twice while Laurin had four helpers and Malm three.

Other Eagles goals came from Capstick, Johnathan Stein, Brendan Budy, Logan Hunter and Luke Zuzula.

Day two (March 20) of the tournament features:

Prince George vs Kelowna (8 a.m.)

Coquitlam vs. North Shore Winter Club (11 a.m.)

Cowichan Valley vs. Kelowna (5 p.m.)

Langley vs. North Shore Winter Club (8 p.m.)

The tournament runs until Thursday (March 22) with the top two teams after the round robin facing off for the gold medal at 8 p.m.
