Eight products of Kelowna Minor Lacrosse will represent their zone next month at the B.C. Summer Games in Nanaimo.
Four players from the local midget A team—Matt Blanchard, Kristian Beech, Kyle Durec, Clinton Fisk—will play with the Thompson Okanagan box lacrosse team, which will be coached by Kelowna’s Alex Blanchard.
The other four players—Keaton Brownlee, Josh DuBrett, Zane Torres, Ryan Hughes, Jameson Murray—will be members of the zone 2 field lacrosse team.
The players were chosen as a result of their performances last month at zone tryout camps.
“We’re proud of all the boys, they’ve worked very hard to get this opportunity and they are setting a great example for all the young players ,” said KMLA president Alisa Brownlee. “Kelowna Minor Lacrosse head coach Alex (Blanchard) has done some great work and we’re seeing the results.
“It’s a great opportunity for their growth, their development and the exposure they’re going to get from this.”
Another local player, James Alexander, would have earned a trip to the Games, but is instead committed to Team B.C. this summer in field lacrosse.
In other news, the Kelowna midget A team will face Kamloops in the best-of-three Okanagan final in July. The series winner will advance to the B.C. A 2 provincials.
