Elementary excellence at district track meet

Chilliwack's elementary schoolers hit the track at Sardis secondary last week for the year-end event.

Elementary school students from the Chilliwack school district gathered at Sardis secondary school for the annual track and field championship meet last Thursday.

Kenna Friesen was your aggregate winner among 2009 girls. The Unity Christian athlete dominated the sprints with first place finishes in the 100, 200 and 400 metres.

Kent’s Warren Wheeler captured top spot among 2009 boys. He finished first in long jump, second in the 100m and third in high jump.

Promontory’s Maggie Epp and Greendale’s Sorell Lenz shared the aggregate award for 2008 girls.

Epp posted first place finishes in the 400 and 800m and a second place showing in the 1500m. Lenz produced first place finishes in the 100 and 200m dashes and a second place showing in shot-put.

Riley Simmonds captured the aggregate award for 2008 boys. The East Chilliwack student swept the distances races with firsts in the 400, 800 and 1500m.

Promontory’s Natasha Everett led the 2007 girls with firsts in the 100, 200 and 400m races.

Yarrow’s Carter Rushton led the 2007 boys with firsts in the 400, 800 and 1500m runs.

Katie Stewart, a home-schooled athlete, proved best among 2006 girls with firsts in the 100 and 200m, and long jump.

And Sardis’s Dungwoo Oh led the 2006 boys with firsts in the 200m and long jump and second in the 100m.
