Dodge your housework next Saturday (Aug. 11), and instead, come out to watch the Sooke residents dodge some balls.
The EMCS Society is hosting a dodgeball tournament at the high school, and everyone is welcome to come and catch some of the action.
Around 60 people will be playing in the tournament. The players have been split up into 10 teams, which are co-ed and made up of people of all ages.
Games will begin at 11 a.m. and carry through until about 5 p.m.
“I thought this would be a fun way to get adults, who likely haven’t played dodgeball in years, and youth together for a day of fun,” said Shaylin Warren, youth engagement coordinator.
“I chose dodgeball because it’s something everyone has played, and even if they haven’t, it’s easy to learn. And I opened it to all ages because I thought it might be a fun thing for parents to do with their kids.”
This is the first time the EMCS Society has hosted a dodgeball tournament, and Warren said more teams registered than she expected.
“I was surprised how many people signed up. I was only expecting to have maybe six teams, so to have 10 is absolutely fantastic,” said Warren.
The event is free to go and watch, and a food concession will be on site.
Registration is now closed, but if you wish to sign up for a team, please contact Shaylin Warren at YEPCoordinator.sooke@gmail.com.
