The Strathcona Nordics are getting stoked to rise above the clouds and rain and into the snow for another stellar season of cross-country skiing.

They offer programs for all ages and levels, both recreational and racing. Register now because the last day for early-bird pricing is Nov. 30.

Strathcona Nordic Ski Club is Vancouver Island’s cross-country ski club, with hundreds of members each winter enjoying fun club events, skill development by qualified coaches, as well as a 10 per cent discount at Ski Tak Hut and Raven Lodge Retail on Mount Washington.

Cross-country skiing is a “sport for life,” and the best form of exercise. It can be learned at any age, includes all your muscle groups and your cardiovascular system. Because it’s low impact you can exercise for longer without the risk of injury.

Children six to 10 will enjoy the Rabbit programs, which teach balance, agility and ski technique in a playful environment. Strathcona Nordic Adventure Program (SNAP) and Learn to Ski are both offered to youth who crave adventures in the snow during a social and skill building experience. Adult recreational skiers in the Masters program can improve their technique, classic and skate, as well as fitness through a season of coached sessions at the beginner, intermediate or advanced level. Programs run for 8-10 sessions starting in January, on Saturdays or on Sundays, from 10 am until 12 p.m.

Year-round racing programs are offered by the club as well, for skiers who enjoy the thrill of skiing fast and competing at the local, provincial and national levels. The Devo program is for skiers nine to 13, Junior racers 13 to 19, Senior racers (19+) and Master racers (30+).
