Heading into the Grade 8 Invitational Provincial championship, the KVR Express girls basketball team had of goal of being among the top eight.

Opening with a 51-31 loss to Vancouver’s Little Flower Academy in Pitt Meadows changed that as the Express went on to place 13th. While the game was close for two-and-a-half quarters, Little Flower Academy pulled away their ability to shoot from the outside. The Express then lost to Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School 37-22.

The Express finished the championship tournament with a 2-2 record as they defeated the host Pitt Meadows Marauders 39-21 and Laurie Middle School 41-40.

“These young ladies have learned a lot about basketball, but most importantly they learned more about themselves and how hard work leads to great success,” said Haddrell, who thanked the parents for their support. “I can not be prouder of the way these girls competed and how they became a strong team that would do anything for any of their teammates.”

The Express were led by captains Josie Mehrer, Cori-Lynn Ewnachuk, and Annie Plant, who Haddrell said did an incredible job of leading the team.
