Local extreme mountain bike competitor Liam Wallace took home a first-place trophy from the Ranchstyle Mountain Bike Festival in Grand Junction, Colorado.
It was the first North American stop on the Freestyle Mountain Bike World Tour, and a key event for Wallace.
He knew he was getting good as a trick rider, but wanted to test himself against international competition.
He ran in the open slopestyle class, and won it.
“I did my run, and I did what I wanted to do,” he said.
“Then, everyone else went crazier, so I had to go crazier too, and I landed everything.”
Wallace went up jumps and down drops, doing bar spins, tailwhips, backflips and 360s.
He knew he had a great run.
“I was really excited when I came down the course and landed all my tricks, he said. I had the feeling I was in the top three.”
Wallace has been debating turning professional, but the 15-year-old said he plans to continue as an amateur, and do well at that level before entering pro classes.
“I want to stay in the amateur class, and try to win it,” he said.
