Fairwinds and CN helping develop young golfers

Fairwinds Golf Club is helping local girls develop their golf skills with the CN Future Links Girls’ Club, a developmental program for girls age seven to 14.

Members will develop skills, positive images of themselves as athletes and a life-long love of the game.

This season the Fairwinds Learning Centre is running several junior programs for boys and girls including Learn to Play (age 8 to 13), Rookie (5 to 7) and Girls’ Club.

“It is our goal that conducting a CN Future Links program will introduce children to the game and make it more affordable, accessible and give kids a chance to learn the game in a high energy, fun-filled environment,” said Hélène Delisle, one of the PGA of Canada teaching professionals at Fairwinds.

”The CN Future Links program is essential if golf is going to continue to grow and attract young players at the grassroots level.”

“It is through the generosity of clubs like Fairwinds Golf Club, that have helped introduce more than one million young boys and girls to the game since the inception of Future Links in 1996,” said Scott Simmons, Golf Canada executive director. “We look forward to watching the program expand and seeing the development of our participants through their junior golf years.”

CN Future Links is a joint initiative of Golf Canada, PGA of Canada and provincial golf associations.

More than one million children have taken part in Future Links programs since 1996. The CN Future Links Junior Series consists of six junior championships, giving more than 500 children across Canada an opportunity to play competitive golf.

For more information check www.future-links.org, e-mail futurelinks@rcga.org, or call 1-800-263-0009 ext. 346. It will run every Saturday in May to August (excluding long weekends).
