While fans typically pack the South Okanagan Events Centre to watch the Penticton Vees play hockey, on Monday they got to hit the ice themselves.

As part of the Family Day events happening at the SOEC complex, skaters young and old alike got the chance to play shinny or just skate around the rink with the junior A hockey players.

The City of Penticton with Spectra held the Family Day event that included the free skate with the Vees, a by donation barbecue hosted by IGA, toonie pool admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Despicable Me 3 was played at the Cleland Theatre from 2:30 to 4 p.m. (free admission0>
