Andy Ferguson’s rink put on an impeccable performance to secure the Haney Master’s Curling Club championship at Golden Ears Winter Club Wednesday.
With Max Albrechtsen (third), Ed Belsey (second) and Clifford Wells playing lead, the Ferguson rink defeated the Dutchie Kleisterlee rink to clinch first place in the final game of the Fall curling session.
In a closely fought battle for first place with two other teams, the victory allowed Ferguson to edge out Peter Koehler and Angelo Masaro.
Koehler’s rink of Roger Fast, Bob Asher and Tom Manin made a run for top spot, but fell short of Ferguson by a single point. Meanwhile Masaro’s team, a leader for much of the season, faltered down the stretch to finish in third spot.
Haney Master’s now takes a Christmas break.
