Local couple sets four national records in West Vancouver

Ed and Brenda Fergusson had a very successful weekend in West Vancouver at the 2015 B.C. masters weightlifting competition. Both Ed and Brenda set new records and came away with medals in their respective categories.

Ed and Brenda Fergusson, of Parksville, both brought home medals and new records in their respective categories from the 2015 B.C. Masters Weightlifting Competition in West Vancouver on Satnurday.

Ed Fergusson, competing in the men’s 80-85 age group (75 kg category), set new B.C. and Canadian masters records in the snatch (41 kg) and clean and jerk (52 kg).

The old records were 40 kg in the snatch and 48 kg in the clean and jerk.

Brenda Fergusson also set new B.C. and Canadian Women’s masters records in the women’s 70-74 age group (75+ kg category) with lifts of 23 kg in the snatch and 35 kg in the clean and jerk.

The event was hosted by the Capilano Weightlifting Club and held at Crossfit B.C.

Both Ed and Brenda compete for the Nanaimo Crossfit Weightlifting Club on Boxwood Road in Nanaimo and also train at Jim’s Gym in Parksville.

Ed, a level-three Canadian weightlifting coach, coaches his wife Brenda.

Both Ed and Brenda will be competing again next Saturday, February 28, at the A & R Open being held at the Cameron Centre in Port Alberni.
