Good breaks haven’t been plentiful for the Sicamous Eagles since the new year began. The one break they did receive over the past week came in Chase on Wednesday, Jan. 25, where Sicamous managed a 3-2 overtime win against KIJHL Doug Birks Division cellar-dwellers the Chase Heat.
The Heat were first on the board with a first period power-play goal. Eagle Connor Fynn tied things up with a goal at 2:19. Assists came from Daniel Anhorn and Brett Tofanenko.
A power-play goal in the second period from Sicamous’ Steven Powers (assisted by Tarren Cavanaugh) put the team in the lead going into the third frame, where Chase tied things up at the half point. The game wound up being pushed into overtime. In overtime period 2, a Brendon Wilde-goal sealed the win for Sicamous. Powers was named second star for the game.
On Friday, Jan. 27, the Eagles were on the losing end of a 7-4 decision to guests, the Princeton Posse. Trofanenko potted Sicamous’ first goal with a little over a minute left on the clock. Both teams were strong in the second frame, managing three goals apiece and ending the period in a 4-4 tie. Sicamous goals were by Stewart Coyle, Fynn and Anthony Gilbert. The Posse pulled ahead in the third frame with two goals.
Sicamous was first on the board on Sunday, Jan. 29 in a contest against hosts the Kamloops Storm. The goal came from Brendan Devries. The Storm tied things up in the first period, then pulled ahead in the second with two more goals. Sicamous’ final goal of the night came from Coyle on a third-frame power play. The end result was a 3-2 win for Kamloops.
Sicamous hosts the Kimberly Dynamiters on Friday, Feb. 3. Game time is 7 p.m.
