UVic wins a thrilling finale Sunday over members of Island club team

It took penalty strokes for the University of Victoria Vikes to finally overcome Wildcats White in Sunday’s championship game at the UVic Indoor Field Hockey Tournament.

Playing in a converted gymnasium at the Ian Stewart Complex, the teams were tied 3-3 after regulation and a five-minute, golden goal overtime solved nothing. The Vikes outscored the Wildcats 4-2 on penalty strokes to win the weekend tournament. Fifth-year Vike and Lambrick Park secondary grad Kyle Kirby notched the eventual winner.

Other key Island players competing in the final included Vikes’ Sheriden Goodmanson, Kathleen Leahy and Rosie Beale, and Wildcats Ali Lee, Perri Espeseth, Sandy Zinkowski, Gillian Kirkpatrick and Heather Wheatley.
