The Oak Bay Figure Skating Club skated away with the Vancouver Island Regional Team Award at the Vancouver Island Regional Championships held at Archie Browning Arena in Esquimalt earlier this month.
The Oak Bay Figure Skating Club sent 40 skaters to the 2015 event, which attracted 400 skaters from all over Vancouver Island.
“I’m really proud of how well all our skaters performed,” said Jamie McGrigor, the Oak Bay club’s director of skating. “The club was represented on literally every award podium there was all weekend long. Many of our skaters took home three medals each.”
This was the largest ever Vancouver Island Regional Championship, which features events for competitors in the Starskate stream, the competitive figure skating stream and Special Olympics, and is the last qualifying event for Starskate competitors as they head to the Provincial Super Series Starskate Final set for March in Kelowna.
The Oak Bay Figure Skating Club has seven competitors heading to the Super Series Starskate Final, all of whom stand a good chance of medalling.
