Filly wins first race

Thanks Dave gallops to pay dirt in five of six races

Thanks Dave, No. 3 in blue, showed her spirit and speed by getting her first win at Evergreen Racetrack recently. The locally raised three-year-old had finished in the money in four of five races before getting her first win.

“Local girl makes good,” is how Bridge Lake’s Dee Sullivan describes the filly’s first win.

Dee, and her daughter-in-law, Lisa Giles, of Horse Lake raised this filly from five months of age after her original owner would not pay for a necessary hernia operation.

Dee was having none of that, and paid for the operation.

Christened “Thanks Dave” after the original owner, the filly is now three years old. She has raced five times and has “been in the money,” coming second or third, on four of those occasions.

However, this time, her sixth outing, at Evergreen Racetrack in Grand Prairie on July 25, the young filly won.

“It was pretty exciting,” says Dee. “There was a foot of mud, just awful and I could hardly bear to watch.”

The women are thrilled with Thanks Dave’s performance and plan on racing her throughout the season. She’ll be at Grande Prairie until the end of August and then, Dee says she will probably race in Edmonton.
