If you noticed ladies golfing in some interesting golf attire last week at Eaglecrest Golf Course, it’s nothing to be alarmed about, just the Eaglecrest Ladies Golf Club enjoying their final round of the season.
The 35 players who took part in the final game of the season for the Eaglecrest Ladies Golf Club wore unusual attire for golfers — pajamas, bathrobes and even a negligee.
In the pajama party round, played over 13 holes, each member of a foursome used a designated coloured ball for at least three holes, with lost balls bringing disqualification for the team.
The winning foursome was Judy Reid, Jane McKamey, Sharon Bellinger and Elizabeth Marsland, while “closest to the pin” prizes went to Bev Watson, Lorraine Ruus and Irene Creally.
The game was followed by a luncheon and then club captain, Margaret Waterhouse, presented the season’s trophies and other awards.
This year’s club championship, held in August, was a hard-fought contest down to the last hole. The winner was Kathy Hiebert, who beat out contender Wendy Paulsen by only one stroke over two rounds.
This was Hiebert’s seventh championship win. Wendy received the low net trophy, while the flight winners, gross and net, were June Sadgrove and Sonya Miller (flight A) and Judy Reid and Cathryn Bolton (flight B).
Dale Marshall and Wendy Paulsen won the two annual match play tournaments, the Croquet Cup and the Aggie Cup, respectively, with Marjorie Behrman and Liz Gillies as runner-up in each case, and Lorna Carswell and Sonya Miller winning the consolation competitions.
In the contest for the Lorraine Riva Memorial Trophy — an eclectic tournament played over two rounds, where only the better net score on each hole counts — the three division winners were Kathy Hiebert, Elly Smith and Cathryn Bolton.
The award for the most improved player went to Marie Monaghan.
