Over 200 fans gathered at the annual Mother’s Day Season Opening Races on May 12.

The first Terrace Speedway race day of the year featured a variety of competition including the Trophy Dash, heat races and the main events for each of the classes: A Bomber, B Bomber, Street Stock and Legends.

Winners from the Trophy Dash event were Nathan Reinert (No. 77) for A Bomber Class, Jesse Goddard (No. 36) for Street Stock Class, Rick Reinhert (No. 53) for B Bomber Class and Phil Hustad (No. 2) in the Legend Car category.

“It was a fun day for sure,” says Ann Carlson, secretary of Terrace Speedcar Association (TSCA).

“The thrill is that you know the Bombers are fun and people love to watch them… Everyone looks forward to a rollover but none happened.”

Carlson adds that it was a bittersweet day as it was the final race for Paul Fleming, an icon and volunteer at the race track for approximately 30 years.

“He’s moving away from Terrace… we’re definitely losing someone special,” she says.

The Terrace Speedway is currently looking for volunteers to help facilitate their upcoming events and can be contacted through Facebook or via email at terracespeedway@hotmail.com.
