Cowichan Red Arrow earned their first win of the Div. 3A soccer season last weekend, beating the Alberni Athletics 1-0 at the Sherman Road turf on Sunday.
Jedson August scored the lone goal of the match, Tim Den Hartigh had the shutout, and Tyson Black was named Cowichan’s game MVP as Red Arrow broke a three-game losing streak with the victory.
The new Div. 3 team will be at home again this coming weekend, hosting Cermaq City Wave of Campbell River at Sherman Road at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
In the Masters A division, the Cowichan 49ers improved to 3-0 with a 3-1 win over the CB Red Barn Bobcats in Saanich last Friday. Game MVP George Thomas scored twice and Erik Fuller had the other goal in the win, which keeps the 49ers atop the Master A standings. The 49ers were scheduled to play at home this Saturday, but that match has been postponed.
In the Masters C division, the Cowichan Steelheads suffered their first loss of the season, dropping to 2-1 with a 5-2 defeat by Bays United FC in Oak Bay on Friday. Game MVP Neall Rowlings and Adam Laurie scored for the Steelheads, who will visit Vic West this coming Sunday.
Cowichan’s Div. 1 and Div. 2 entries had last weekend off. Cowichan LMG will resume the Div. 1 season on Saturday with a visit to Comox Valley United, while unbeaten Cowichan United will host Vantreights at Sherman Road at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
