Spring has arrived and I have the proof. Five birdies showed up on the golf course on Tuesday night, May 2.
Louise Lodge, Brenda Oakland, Deb Legaree, Deb Rainer and Lois McInnis split the pot. The event was extra exciting for Lois as it was her first birdie ever. You never forget your first.
Lois also won the coveted Pottery by Ramona for scoring KP in 2 on Hole 7. She was inches away from an Eagle. Deb Legaree had a good afternoon. In addition to her birdie she scored the only deuce of the day and walked away with the deuce pot which had been carried forward from last year and last week. She also had a KP on Hole 4 and a KP in 2 for her flight on Hole 7.
A small explanation for the non-golfer – low gross is the score before your handicap is deducted and low net is after it is deducted. There is a lengthy definition for handicap but you don’t really want me to get into it. Needless to say my biggest handicap is I talk too much and don’t pay enough attention to my golfing.
In Flight 1 the low gross winner with a score of 44 was Louise Lodge while low net was Karen Peterson with a score of 46 (33). Deb Rainer was the low gross winner in Flight 2 with a 52 and Susan Newberry was low net with a 56 (35). Babes Shanko scored a 52 to win low gross for flight 3 while Audrey Rilcoe scored 56 (35) to win low net. Flight 4 golfers don’t have handicaps. Betty Baillie had the lowest score (54) in that flight while Trish Thompson had the second lowest score (60).
Pin Placements are always an exciting part of our Ladies’ Day – especially for those with their names on the pins. Flight 1 winners this week were Cindy Leibel (long drive in 2 on Hole 2 and closest to the tree on Hole 7), Fiona Clare (KP on Hole 4 and long putt on Hole 5), Donna Salle (KP on Hole 6) and Karen Peterson (long drive on Hole 9). Flight 2 winners were Debbie Rainer (long drive in 2 on Hole 1 and long putt on Hole 5) and Trudy Forsythe (KP on Hole 6 and long drive on Hole 9). In Flight 3 the winners were Betty Foote (long drive in 2 on Hole 1), Babes Shanko (long putt on Hole 3), Doreen Landry (KP on Hole 4), Jeannie Webber (KP on Hole 6) and Evelyn Lucas (long putt on Hole 8). The winners from Flight 4 were Betty Baillie (long drive in 2 on Hole 2 and long putt on Hole 8), Irene Beeton (long putt on Hole 3), Catherine Reim (KP on Hole 4), Brenda Carl (long drive on Hole 5),. The least putts honours went to Babes Shanko with a fantastic 12 putts. The most honest putter was Catherine Reim with a total of 37.
A large number of the usual suspects sent their poor balls into the gully on Hole 7.
Our sponsors of the week are those generous Hole-In-One folks: Alpine Meadows Resort, Barriere Auto Parts and Bob Stirling, local artist. We would also like to thank the Star/Journal and Chinook Cove Golf for their support.
We have been promised that the warm weather will be showing up soon. We hope to see you all out on the course next Tuesday.
