Five players with local ties have been named to the Canadian U19 men’s rugby team that will play a two-game series against the U.S. before and after New Year’s Day.
Duncan’s Peyton Eagar, Cobble Hill’s Kyle Joe and Mill Bay’s Seth Purdy will play on the team alongside Purdy’s current Shawnigan Lake School teammate Evan Norris and Shawnigan grad Mostyn Findlay. Eagar, Joe and Norris, who calls Victoria home, have all suited up for the Cowichan Rugby Football Club.
Canada will face the U.S. on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 at the United States Olympic Centre in Chula Vista, California.
Many of the players have already represented Canada in international competition. Last February, Findlay, who now attends UVic, captained the Canadian U18 XV on a tour of Ireland. Purdy was also a member of that team.
