Flames rally to burn Knights

First loss in four games for Langley junior B hockey club

Four unanswered goals from the Ridge Meadows Flames ended the Langley Knights’ three-game winning streak.

The Knights were up 3-1 after one period on Thursday (Dec. 11) night in junior B hockey at the George Preston Recreation Centre. But the Flames scored twice in the middle period and two more times in the third for the 5-3 victory.

Langley lost despite outshooting Ridge Meadows by a 43-21 margin but Flames goaltender Kurt Klimek — who is from Langley — was up to the challenge, delivering a 40-save performance.

After Langley’s Tristan Craighead and Ridge Meadows’ Danny Wilson exchanged goals, Levi De Waal and Colin Catchpole put the home side up 3-1 after 20 minutes. But the Flames’ Halen Cordoni and Bradley Crompton had the only goals of the middle period and Brandon Inwood and Wilson struck for goals 28 seconds apart early in the third.

The loss dropped Langley to 15-11-1-1 on the season and their 32 points are four better than both the Aldergrove Kodiaks and Abbotsford Pilots.

The Knights are back in action on Dec. 15 when they visit the Richmond Sockeyes.

The team’s next home game is Dec. 18 against Aldergrove.
