Fly fisher Rowley to conduct seminar in Parksville

Celebrated fly fisher Phil Rowley is coming to Parksville.

Celebrated fly fisher Phil Rowley is coming to Parksville.

He will hold a seminar focusing on stillwater techniques. The event is organized by the Mid Island Castaways Fly Fishing Club and it will be held April 14 at Parksville Community Centre from noon to 5 p.m.

Rowley will share his techniques and knowledge. Tickets are $30 per person and are available at Coast Sportfish, Nile Creek Fly Shop and Teddy’s Tackle or give Garry Fisher a call at 1-403-506-1987. Tickets are limited so organizers are asking those interested to attend to get them early.

At the age of six, Rowley was introduced to coarse fishing in England and has been hooked ever since. For the past 20 years Rowley has been fly-fishing stillwaters almost exclusively. His love of stillwater fly fishing has taken him all over British Columbia and Washington in the pursuit of trout and char.

A former commercial fly tyer, Rowley has written for almost every major fly fishing publication in North America. His contributions also include books and numerous feature articles on fly-fishing stillwaters and stillwater fly patterns. His book Fly Patterns For Stillwaters has become a best seller.

Rowley in conjunction with True North Entertainment released a DVD, Tying Fly Patterns for Stillwaters. This DVD features patterns from Rowley’s book along with some new creations. When he is not tying flies or on the water Rowley travels western North America performing at outdoor shows, teaching a variety of seminars, speaking to fly clubs and conducting weekend fly-fishing schools. He also appear on TV shows such as Sport Fishing B.C., The New Fly Fisher and Fishing with Shelly and Courtney.
