Dustin Folliott scored twice as the Corbett Office Plus Cowboys lassoed the Lumby Stars 6-3 in North Okanagan Midget Super Hockey League action Saturday night at Civic Arena.
Folliott opened the scoring in the first period on a feed by Jeremy Clark. Reiker Krenz, assisted by Sam Whitelaw, made it 2-0 with 52 seconds left in the period.
Lumby responded early in the second period before Folliottt, assisted by Clark, restored the Cowboys’ two-goal lead. Lumby replied just before the ice clean and tied it early in the third.
Cowboys d-man Nat Wilson made some great shot blocks and goalie Yager Krenz stopped a couple of breakaways until Nathan Meyer, with 4:30 left, made a spectacular rush, split the Lumby defence, and deked the goalie to score the winner.
Meyer was assisted by Reiker Krenz and Justin Ramsey on the play.
Ben James clicked from Nik Wasylyk, while Whitelaw scored from Reiker Krenz, for insurance tallies. Austin Goss shared the victory in net.
It was a snipe show for first-year Midget Austin Bosquet as the right winger scored five times in the Nedco Titans’ 8-0 Super League win over Winfield Bruins Saturday at Priest Valley Arena.
Brett Shaigec, Josh Lerbeck and Kolton Kirschner added singles for the Titans, who got three assists from Garrett Dansereau and Yannick Fillion-Murphy. Rodger Sewell recorded the shutout.
The Vernon Authentic Plaque and Trophy Tropics overcame a 3-0 first-period deficit Sunday to beat Salmon Arm #2 8-6 in Midget Super League action at the Sunwave Centre.
Brock Wagner pulled the hat trick, including a great short-handed effort, while the smooth-skating Russell Hickman contributed 1+3 for the Tropics. Travis Webster, Cameron Strike, Brett Vandale and Connor Smidt also scored for the Tropics, while Brandon Tarasenko had two assists. Luke Vandale was sold in net.
The Lakeside Printing Predators grounded the Vernon Seed Orchard Bantam girl Sharks 10-2 in Pee Wee Super League action Sunday.
The Preds opened the scoring on the first shift of the game when Cathou Bauml scored her first ever goal on a rebound off a Brittany Jackson shot.
Jonas Ramsey scored his first of four goals just three minutes later to tie it up. Cole Martin scored his first of two on the day to put the Predators in the lead for good.
The Sharks’ second goal was scored midway through the second period by Cailee Bauml off a great feed from Taylor DaSilva, who outworked an opponent in the corner.
Landon Currie supplied 2+5 for the Predators, while Jacob Soucy and Chris Aldrich added singles. Cam McKenzie was strong in the Predators’ net early, stopping Molly Crandlemire on several clear chances. Nikala Debalinhard and Chelsea McCaig played strong defence for the Sharks.
The Salmon Arm Midget girls, with several Vernon products on their roster, attended the Canucks-Wild game Saturday in Vancouver.
Before heading home on Sunday, the girls stopped Tri-Cities 5-1 at Planet Ice in Coquilam.
Taylor Lund scored first with the assist going to Lisa Campeau. Sarah Botter converted with Summer Jespersen earning the helper. Mykaila Head, Botter and Maddison Turner followed with goals.
Salmon Arm has received confirmation from B.C. Hockey that it will be hosting the Midget Female Tier 1 Provincials, March 19-22, at the Sunwave Centre.
The Thompson Okanagan Female Midget AAA Rockets, who have Danielle Butler and Mackenzie Barrie of Vernon on their roster, stuffed the Kootenay Wildcats 9-0 and 5-1 in league play in Nelson. Barrie pocketed 1+2 in the shutout.
