Nanaimo is a football hotbed in B.C., and more proof of that came this week.
Eight local teens have been registered with Football B.C. to attend provincial team tryout camps in Richmond this coming weekend (May 18-20).
Brandon Parker, Justin Cook, Brody Taylor and Kyle Vollet will participate in the U18 camp and Nathanael Durkan, Cory Fletcher, Carson Vos and Brandon White will be part of the U16 camp.
All eight are from either the John Barsby Secondary School football program or Football Nanaimo.
“We are looking forward to an incredible showcase of skill and talent at this weekend’s camp,” said Patrick Waslen, Football B.C. executive director, in a press release.
Also at the camp this weekend will be Football Nanaimo’s Sean Roden, who has been named as coach of the U16 Team B.C. that will compete at the Red River Cup in Winnipeg in July.
“We feel the experience and knowledge he has with the Canadian game, as well as his track record of success with the Nanaimo Redmen, makes him the ideal candidate for this position and will give our U16 team the best opportunity to succeed…” said Dino Geremia, Football B.C.’s technical director.
