Two Williams Lake Stampeder netminders will be hosting a goaltending camp this summer in 100 Mile House and are inviting any young goaltender — regardless of skill — to attend.
The camp, Sixth Warrior Goalie Training, will be coached by Justin Foote and Willie Sellars.
Foote started the camp four years ago, and has since been holding goalie camps over the Christmas break in Williams Lake. This will be the first summer camp Foote has hosted.
The camp, which runs from Aug. 8-12 at 100 Mile House’s South Cariboo Recreation Centre, will focus on developing young goalies to help them improve at the position.
“It’s important in youth development,” Foote said. “We’re looking for players aged eight to 17 — beginners, anybody who just wants to go for that next level.”
Foote said the camp will focus on fundamental skills of the position such as skating, movement and positioning.
Sellars emphasized the pair aren’t just looking for rep goalies, and added the camp is the only one like it in the Cariboo.
“It’s important because we don’t have anything like this in our area,” Sellars said. “We’re trying to give kids the base that’s going to make them a better goalie and allow them to make that next step.
“We’re not just looking for rep goalies — it’s for anyone who wants to improve. When I was growing up I learned from watching hockey on TV. We’re going to be giving drills so the players can take that back and teach themselves after the camp.”
Foote said players should sign up early as a set number of spots are available in the camp.
For Bantam and Midget players nine spaces are available. For Peewee players and younger, 16 spots are available.
Registration can be done by contacting Foote at 250-3905-8030 or at 250-392-6998. For more information e-mail Foote at sixthwarriortraining@hotmail.com.
