How hot have the Bear Boys been lately?
Just ask Serenity, who suffered an 8-1 defeat to them.
It is their third loss in a row to the Big Red Machine, who are now 7-1-0 in their last eight games and have moved to within one point of the Builders’ Forestry Hockey League lead.
This contest was over early as Bear scored on its first three shots and held a 6-1 lead at Zamboni time.
Continuing his incredible streak of late was Lee “Nitro” Naeth, who scored four gorgeous goals and also found time to draw an assist on “RCA” Victor Hegan’s second greasy goal of the morning.
Also having a productive morning was Glen “The Chemist” Boudreau, who earned three apples, while versatile D-Man Kris “Haymaker” Hayman collected a pair of helpers as his guard weight was outstanding.
Surprising everyone with a wick and a roll before setting up Neil “Real” Mackay’s fourth of the season was Eric “Bonsai” Bodman who used the unpredictable ice to his advantage.
Meanwhile in the Serenity corner, Brian “Bubba” Inwood hammered in a one timer to give the Builders a very short bit of momentum.
Amazingly Serenity had a chance to even up the score in the last end but Bear quickly ran them out of rocks for their tenth win of the season.
Meanwhile in the West Fraser Barn, something had to give as both squads were riding losing streaks heading into week 17.
BCS put up a great fight, overcoming a two-goal deficit with three straight before Fraser River reeled off a trio of their own in their 5-4 victory.
Scoring a pair and adding one assist was Levon “Young gun” Johnson who collected an assist on Randy “Killer” Crofts 10th of the season.
“Killer” wasn’t done there as he and Jason “Double J” Johnson set up “Young gun’s” second tally.
Notching the winner on an unassisted beauty was “Super” Dave Penner who, despite rumours about his demise, is very much alive.
Blue Collar probably deserved at least a point in the contest as they fought hard to the final end and could have easily tied it with their netminder pulled for an extra attacker.
Cueing up the comeback for the cellar dwellers was Skip Kevin “Martin” Hesslegrave who raised one in for one as he drew an apple on “Jack” Russel Higdon’s sixth of the season.
Scoring his first of the campaign for BCS was Rob “The Rock” Lentz as Jim “Soupy” Sales gave his squad a short-lived lead without the hammer.
