A popular former Chilliwack Chief has earned an NCAA scholarship, with Carter Wilkie committing to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
“It feels amazing to be committed,” said Wilkie, who spent one-and-a-half seasons with the Chiefs (2018-20). “It’s something I’ve worked hard for and finally got. It was a long process but I’m grateful and appreciate everyone along the way who helped me.”
Wilkie, 20, was traded by Chilliwack to the West Kelowna Warriors around the midpoint of last season, with Chiefs hockey boss Brian Maloney unable to give the Calgary kid the ice-time and opportunities he needed. Wilkie elevated his play after joining West K, taking an immediate leadership role and turning the heads of college scouts.
He posted 15 goals and 31 points in 40 games with the Warriors.
“I have nothing but love for that kid,” Maloney said. “RIT reached out to me a couple times about my thoughts on Carter, and I’m glad they feel the same way as I do about him. Great kid!”
