Spending the past two seasons playing for the Bellingham Blazers in the Northern Pacific Hockey League earned Sasha Mitchell-Perron a good look from U.S. college scouts.
The former Juan de Fuca Grizzlies minor hockey player, now 20, committed recently to play for the NCAA Div. 3 University of McKendree Bearcats in Lebanon, Missouri next fall.
He scored 46 goals and 53 assists in 86 regular season and playoff games for the Blazers over the past two seasons, and amassed 261 penalty minutes.
Mitchell-Perron spent the previous year with the Kamloops Storm of the Kootenay International Junior (B) Hockey League. The calibre of play in the NPHL rates somewhere in between Junior B and Junior A.
Mitchell-Perron did not receive a full ride scholarship to the school and is raising funds to help cover the cost of his tuition. Visit http://www.gofundme.com/yhv2n7y for more information.
